The bag blog is an open exchange of ideas on sustainable packaging, green initiatives and the earth in general. Pull up a chair, have a read and have a say.

Innovative Bags from around the world!

As you know, we love talking about bags over here. After all, they are pretty important to us. Did you know that most families will only buy boxed cereal? Inside every box is a BAG of cereal! If you think about it, that’s just double packaging. We’re trying to get people to give our cereal bags a chance and help give our planet a well deserved break. Sure, boxes are recyclable, but just think about all of the unnecessary energy and resources that are used to make them in the first place! And, recycling uses valuable resources too.

This got us thinking, are there any other bags out there that are trying to change how people think? What about bags that are just plain interesting, innovative, or simply pretty cool? Bags can be all of these things, while being more earth friendly. Here are a few snazzy bags that caught our attention:

  • Clever Little Bag

This clever little bag was launched back in 2010, but it is still a very cool concept that we had to share. Puma® decided to find ways to reduce packaging and decided to tackle the shoe box! Great video and statistics on how this bag is a better package than the shoebox.
  • Sustainable Design and the Plastic Bag Shoes
What happens when top students from Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design decide to work on sustainable product designs? Plastic bag shoes, of course! The artist who produced the shoes calls plastic bags “the perfect raw material.” Perhaps some Frosted Mini Spooners®’ boots are in order.
  • The Hobo Lantern
Just in case you need a bag AND a lamp at the same time.

So tell us. What is YOUR favorite bag?

Completely agree about a plastic bag being inside a box is pointless.
However, mention of recycling using valuable resources gives a negative connotation on recycling efforts.
I think a big view on recycling is the elimination of waste and that is the only problem I have with plastic bags. I know cardboard will not keep cereal fresh.
If the plastic bags could be made to decompose faster (and clean), then recycling becomes LESS of an issue.
