Making the Most of your Summer Compost

Now that you’ve had a chance to check out our thorough post by ULS Report editor, Bob Lilienfeld, we decided we like composting so much that we want to rant about it just a bit more.

With the warm weather in full swing and summer gardens well on their way, it’s as good a time as any to jumpstart your composting efforts. And with the abundance of seasonal farmers’ markets, organic materials are always at our disposal (literally), making it even easier and better to compost.

According to our friends at Earth911, there are many different summer composting options to fit your household waste stream and lifestyle this sizzling summer – yard or no yard! Earth911 tells us what kind of composting is right for you (even for those of us living an urban lifestyle), what summer snafus to look out for and even offers some tips on how to keep your compost fresh during the “dog days” of summer.

And if you want to know that worms love coffee just as much as humans and much more, check out this year-round “Composting 101.” Of course there is no one “right” way to compost, but if you need some more help getting started, we think the United States Environmental Protection Agency is also a great go-to for beginners.

Any other unique composting tips out there? We’d love to hear your ideas! In the meantime, here’s a big ‘green’ thumbs up to all you gardeners.
